I finally got a chance to go to Benny Tudino’s Pizzeria in Hoboken that Paul has been hyping up to me hardcore for like 3 years at this point. It’s really only been a couple of months but whatever he won’t shut up about it. I know he already reviewed it (read it) but I figured you’d want my two cents since I’m a douchebag asshole. I wasn’t quite as sold as I know Paul is, but it was a solid slice. I don’t even know what to say, it was an above average slice but definitely not my favorite Jersey slice. I want to try more Hoboken pizza so I can be a real critic. The crust was really awesome though and for the size of the slice, $3 is a deal. Whatever, get it. Unlike me you’ll probably really enjoy it.

Yo my family got some pies from TJ’s Pizzeria Cafe down the road from my house in Jefferson Township the other night and it was aight. It’s surprising we haven’t reviewed this yet, but hey, it doesn’t really need one. We got a buffalo chicken pie and a grandma pie. Both were only okay. I’ve had some baller grandma slices before and this wasn’t one of them. The sauce was very average and, seeing as I don’t really like sauce and grandma slices are like 70% sauce, I wasn’t a fan. Disappointing. The buffalo chicken was just plain wacky. There was cheddar and bacon on it, which was cool, but the bleu cheese, as I’m sure you can tell, was just GLOBBED on. It drowned out any potential flavor the slice had. I don’t get it. Apparently they asked my mom on the phone if we wanted it on the side and, had I known this was how they planned to apply it, I would have quickly said no. I remember getting buffalo chicken from here a while back and being significantly more impressed than I was today. Bummer. Jefferson has better pizza for sure.

Of the four pizzerias in my town, Pinto’s is the newest. I haven’t been there in a while, but Chas happened to be in town so I took him to see the sights of Jefferson. I was going to get a plain slice to review, but they had some really interesting looking specialty slices so I couldn’t resist. I got a potato grandma slice and a grilled chicken bacon honey mustard slice. The potato slice was unfortunately pretty whatever. Potatoes are a pretty heavy topping for a slice of pizza so the slice was a little much for what I was expecting. The seasoning was also a little excessive. I was hoping for better but hey, you can’t win ‘em all. The chicken slice was definitely the better of the two. It definitely could have used some more honey mustard though. It was very subtle and I wish it had been a little more prominent in the mix. The crust was great though, so the slices weren’t a total loss. I’m going to have to go back and check out a plain slice because the specialties were a bit underwhelming. Worth scoping out if you’re in town though.

EJ’s Pizza on Queen Anne’s Road in Teaneck, NJ is a huge place by pizza parlor standards, having a backroom for parties and an overall large storefront. Anothe expensive pizza slice, the price unfortunately did not reflect the quality. I got a penne slice for the hell of it and the only thing good about the slice was the penne itself. It had a lot of cheese for what you would expect from a saucy slice and the dough was unusual. Definitely a place you want to stop by for the sandwiches instead of the pizza.

This post is for the clown that said I was wrong about Denville, NJ having shitty pizza. Here’s half a pie from Pavolo’s Pizzeria next to the A&P. First off, I tried to be open about the pizza in Denville especially after reading the response I got, so I went into Pavolo’s with an open mind. Plus, New Jersey usually only fails maybe… 5% of the time (at least this is true for Northern Jersey and the Metro area). However, Pavolo’s Pizzeria blew it BIG TIME. You know the pizza is going to be weak when there are those “crack-like” splits throughout the cheese and sauce peeks through. It’s always bound to suck from there. I am not quite sure on the price per slice since my job got pies for a meeting. It’s safe to say though that I am quite thrilled I did not have to pay for this.

Pizza Crave on Cedar Lane in Teaneck, NJ is an unusual pizza shop because it also has a falafel bar, salad bar, and sushi in the place. I decided in my conquest of Teaneck’s pizza I would try this place first. The pizza was okay in my opinion, coming off a little bland (though it might be a Kosher place). The slices were expensive as hell, but the dough was unusually good, something I do not see often. I figure if you want the best of everything, give this place a try, otherwise I would not fully recommend it to pizza enthusiasts.Rating: 2.5/5

Me and Paul were talking today about how we never finished posting all the slices we ate on our pizza adventure so I’m finally doing one of them. There’s good reason why we never finished posted these because the remaining slices all sucked. Our first stop after Mt. Tabor Pizza was Scalici’s Pizza & Restaurant in Randolph, NJ. Following such a killer spot, it’s no surprise this place sucked even more ass than it would if it had been stop number one. This is apparently considered one of the better spots in Randolph and if this is actually true, Randolph has some godawful pizza. I can’t describe the taste of the sauce as anything but weird. I will say that it grew on me and tasted less shitty as I got further into the slice, but it was still just not good. Paul said he looked at his picture again today and it made him want to puke and I have to agree. It tasted a little better than it looks in that picture, but barely. That buffalo chicken slice was Brian’s and he said the bleu cheese tasted like suntan lotion. It was so bad that he couldn’t finish it so I took a couple bites and, in all honesty, it kinda did taste like suntan lotion. Gross. Biggest waste of money. Seeing as the drive over from Tabor was less than 10 minutes and the drive to our next stop Joe’s was even less, there is absolutely no reason to stop at this place unless you want to be reminded of how grateful you should be that places like Tabor exist. Avoid at all costs. Even if someone is treating you to a slice, ask them why they would put you through such misery and make them take you to someplace better. It did beat out the Sussex slices we had later in the day, but that is honestly not saying anything. It’s spots like this that give New Jersey a bad name.

I did not think it was possible, but New Jersey knows what cold cheese slices are. I left a show halfway last night and got slices from Little Anthony’s in Vernon, NJ and it was probably one of the best choices. Big ups to my dude Sean. He asked if they throw cold cheese on slices and they knew exactly what was good. The best part was these slices are legit and fucking delicious. Definitely a surprise for a Sussex County pizzeria. I mean Little Vinny’s on Long Island is definitely better, but this does the trick. The staff is also mad cool and the cold cheese slice was only $2.50 (compared to Little Vinny’s which is $3.25). The staff is also cool which is always a plus anywhere you go. I don’t need some asshole serving me my slice and/or ruining it. Also, if getting drunk while eating pizza is your thing, you can bring your own alcohol inside this place. So get drunk while eating a great slice. The one strange thing about the place is they have like 3 TVs that just plays the same horse race from the 80’s over and over again. The one kid at the register randomly kept saying “if I have to watch this horse race one more time…”. Weird.

Also, I was just looking on my way out and noticed the sign pictured above that said all you can eat pizza (and soda) on Tuesdays for only $5.99. Guess where I’ll be spending next Tuesday. Everyone should take a trip for that one Tuesday. Definitely worth it. Oh and it is also only one minute away from Mountain Creek so if you need an after ski/snowboard pizza sesh then stop here (or after water park in the summer).

You guys wanted more low reviews, well here you go. Before I even begin, look how gross that sicilian slice looks. Frank’s Pizza in Oak Ridge, NJ (the Milton side of Jefferson Township) may be in the running for worst New Jersey slices. Every time I go there I am fairly disappointed. You think I’d learn by now to not stop there, but about two months ago they gave my friends and I like 4 boxes of all the leftover pizza and we went back to my house with at least 40 slices. I decided to give them a second chance, but as usual they have been blowing it.  Pictured above is a sicilian slice and a white slice. The white slice was just okay, while the sicilian was as gross as it looks. It was just so disgusting and I can’t even describe it without wanting to puke everywhere. That never happens with pizza so that says something. If you’re looking for a slice on the Milton side of Jefferson Township, NJ please avoid Frank’s at all costs. To help you out, it’s by the A&P and there’s a TJ’s Pizza maybe 20 feet away so take the extra 5 seconds. Tom reviewed the Frank’s on the Lake Hopatcong side (read review here) which is known to be a way better Frank’s. They do have different owners so I am not exactly sure if these Frank pizzerias are a chain or if they are just using the same name. I haven’t had time to research it. I do know that there are multiple others such as Rockaway, Mount Olive, and Garfield, just to name a few spots. The one on the Milton side is the biggest joke of them all. Avoid at all costs.
